Large Oval Mirror in the Irish Georgian Manner

A large and impressive oval wall mirror in the Irish Georgian manner, the antiqued plate with a deliberately distressed foxed finish, the dark mottling and spotting evoking the patina of mercury glass of the late 18th century. The plate is set within a slender ebonised frame applied throughout with a continuous border of individually cast square bosses or paterae in silvered metal, each lightly oxidised and of subtly irregular form. The studded border runs uninterrupted around the full oval, creating a bold yet restrained decorative effect drawn directly from the Irish Georgian mirror-making tradition.
