French Parquetry Side Table, 19th Century

FTA696

A decorative French side table of good quality, the shaped serpentine top inlaid with an intricate parquetry surface composed of geometric triangular and diamond forms in fruitwood and walnut, creating a striking three-dimensional cube optical effect. The top is bordered by a band of burr walnut and enclosed within a moulded edge, the corners with characteristic scrolled cartouche detail. The shaped frieze below is carved with a central pendant motif. Raised on elegant cabriole legs terminating on pad feet.

The overall form and decorative vocabulary are consistent with French provincial work of the Louis XV revival type, likely third quarter of the 19th century. The parquetry work is of notably fine execution and in good condition. A very decorative piece.

Please note these is a crack down the width of the piece.
