Early 18th-Century Style Arched Mahogany Mirror
A handsome mahogany mirror in the Queen Anne manner, with a shaped, double-arched crest and stepped shoulders. Originally a swing mirror (a toilet or dressing mirror designed to pivot between uprights on a table-top stand), it has been converted for wall hanging and now sits beautifully as a statement piece in its own right.
The moulded frame is well proportioned, with a rich, glossy patina in warm red-brown tones and attractive figuring to the timber. The serpentine top rail rises in a gentle arch above notched, stepped corners before flowing down into softly moulded uprights, with a fine slip of dark inner moulding framing the glass. The plate has a soft, aged quality with a few small marks consistent with age.
