Antique Teak Strongbox with Iron Bound Corners and Inscribed Lid
A 19th century hardwood strongbox, probably teak, in the colonial campaign manner, with iron strapwork and corner brackets to the lid, front and base. The lid retains its original lock hasp and sturdy iron hinges, and the front has an escutcheon for the lock. Inside the lid is a period inscription in ink reading "1902, H. Scott (?), Sturry Court, Sturry, Kent", an appealing piece of provenance. The top shows faint scribed marks, and the whole carries a rich, well-worn patina with the scratches and wear of honest age.
