Antique Engraved Brass Jardinière, Middle Eastern Mamluk Revival Style

A substantial hand-hammered brass jardinière of bellied form with a flared, rolled rim. The surface is richly engraved and punched with dense geometric and arabesque patterning, with bands of running animals around the neck and shoulder and large roundels containing figural scenes to the body. Beautifully aged, with a warm, mellow patina and the soft wear of a century or more of handling. A characterful piece for a plant, dried stems or branches, or as a sculptural object in its own right. Can be used with fresh flowers if an internal vessel is added.
