A Pair of Chinese Painted Pine Bed Canopy Panels

Qing Dynasty, 19th century

A pair of long, narrow pine panels painted in polychrome with animated figure scenes. One depicts a mythological subject with dragon, figures and animals against an ochre ground; the other a formal courtly procession with robed figures carrying a banner with Chinese characters. Warm palette of ochre, red, green and black, typical of provincial workshop production. Retaining original iron hanging brackets. Paint loss and surface wear consistent with age.
