A Large Dutch Delft Polychrome Charger, circa 1760–70
An impressive 18-inch Dutch Delft charger, hand-painted in polychrome enamels of blue, iron-red, ochre, and manganese purple on a tin-glazed earthenware ground. The rim is decorated with a repeating border of manganese peony blooms with yellow centres, linked by trailing green foliage between twin blue line borders. The central well holds a dense floral spray of large peony-form blooms with feathered blue petals and manganese highlights, iron-red buds, and blue berries on leafy stems, centred on a stylised blue ribboned motif.
Fine surface crazing consistent with age, and minor rim chips as expected for a piece of this period, with the paint retaining excellent depth and gloss.
